Description
Pennsylvania Historic Resource Survey form documenting the J. H. Gillis Furniture building at 1025–1027 Fifth Avenue in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. Dating from approximately 1940–1959, the two-story Modern commercial building is faced with brick panels, metal, and stone veneer. The facade is distinguished by large red metal panels, neon lettering identifying “J. H. Gillis Furniture” and “J. H. Gillis, Furniture and Appliances,” a recessed central bay with large display windows, and broad first-floor glass storefronts. The survey describes the building as a sturdy postwar example of 1950s commercial architecture that is compatible in scale with neighboring buildings.
